Our field trip on Thursday was to Uji. There we saw the Ujigami Shrine and Byodo-in, home to the famous Phoenix Hall. The area surrounding the two historic sites was breathtaking...lush forests on rolling hills and a fast-moving river. The Phoenix Hall is a thousand year old shrine with a giant Buddha in it. While the Ujigami Shrine is a Shinto Shrine.
